In 2012, the cotton planting area in Jiangsu Province decreased by 19%

At the end of May, the Cotton Association of Jiangsu Province contacted seven cotton monitoring sites across the province to investigate, summarize and analyze the 2012 cotton planting area. In 2012, the cotton planting area of ​​the entire province was reduced by nearly 19% compared with 2011.

The Provincial Cotton Association conducted surveys on 350 cotton-growing households in 7 cotton-producing cities and counties. In 2011, the cotton planting area was 1573.9 mu, which was calculated based on comparable factors. In 2012, the cotton planting area was 1267.2 mu, a decrease of 306.7 mu, a decrease of 19%. In the survey, the cotton planting area in Rudong decreased by nearly 1.2%, the cotton planting area in Dafeng City decreased by nearly 20%, and the Fengxian and Sheyang areas recorded large reductions, reaching 40% and 37% respectively.

The main reason for the decrease in cotton area in 2012 was that the purchase price of cotton in 2011 was lower than the cotton farmers' expectation. Combined with the reduction in cotton production, cotton growers' income was greatly reduced, which affected the cotton farmers' enthusiasm for cotton planting.
