Shen Aiqin: "Tangzhuang underwear" popular clothing market at home and abroad

In the picturesque Jiangnan region, surrounded by lush mulberry trees, a woman was born in the 1970s who would eventually lead the largest silk enterprise in Zhejiang Province—Walsall Group Co., Ltd. At the helm of this successful company is Ms. Shen Aiqin, a visionary leader whose name once prompted Premier Zhu Rongji to humorously suggest, "Your name should be Shen Aibao." Now 57 years old, Ms. Shen comes from a family with deep roots in the silk industry dating back to the Five Dynasties. She grew up amidst the sounds of looms and the scent of silk, inheriting not only the tradition but also the cultural essence of sericulture. Her journey has been one of relentless innovation, always striving for excellence and pushing the boundaries of the industry. Starting from 1990, she made bold decisions to invest 46 million yuan to import 108 water jet looms from Japan, and later spent another 100 million yuan to bring in advanced silk printing lines from Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. She also introduced eight fully computerized knitting machines from Korea and France, transforming the company’s production scale and standards. From simple weaving, Walsall evolved into a comprehensive silk garment manufacturing enterprise covering dyeing, weaving, printing, sand washing, and apparel. The company's output value and profit soared from 10 million yuan and 1 million yuan to 200 million yuan and 20 million yuan, positioning it as a leader in the industry. Ms. Shen has always looked ahead, aiming for the global market and adapting to the trends of economic globalization. She emphasized the importance of quality, promoting the ISO9000 and ISO14000 systems across the company. She established a comprehensive brand management system and launched the "Everything Lee" brand, which gained international recognition. In December 1999, the trademark was officially registered by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce as one of China’s most well-known silk brands. In September 2000, during President Jiang Zemin’s visit to the U.S., Walsall’s silk products were showcased at the “Sinochem Culture and the United States” event, receiving high praise. Over the years, the company has exported millions of silk garments to over 30 countries, achieving an export value of 200 million yuan and becoming a leading export unit in China. The "Everything Lee" brand has won numerous awards, including being recognized as one of China’s most fashionable brands and receiving the China Best Women’s Design Award. In May 2001, Walsall produced 300 sets of women’s silk gowns for the APEC Shanghai Conference, earning the nickname "Tangzhuang Underwear" and gaining popularity both domestically and internationally. In the new century, while expanding its core business in silk clothing, Ms. Shen also ventured into biotechnology, real estate, and other sectors. By 2002, the company had developed a large shopping mall in Hangzhou, earning the title of a leading enterprise in East China. It also launched several real estate projects under the brand “Southern Homestead,” including developments in Deqing, Jiaxing, and other cities. These initiatives brought new growth opportunities to the company, transforming it into a diversified conglomerate with a strong foundation in silk clothing, biotechnology, real estate, and cultural industries.
